The fake Amanda Clark was not the only person to see a different side to Jack Porter at the conclusion of last week’s Revenge.

The Jack Porter that fans of this ABC series have come to know would not put on a black suit and whisk away his girlfriend to Atlantic City. So might this be a sign of a new direction for the typically uptight bartender?

“Maybe,” Nick Wechsler teased to me over the phone. “Down the road, we may see Jack doing things we didn’t expect him to be doing. We’ll see a darker side and that was getting the ball rolling on it.”

Interesting. If a few words of wisdom from Declan – and some same-sex-kissing from Amanda – simply get the ball rolling, where might that ball head when Daniel proposes to Emily? How will Jack to this development?

Wechsler played coy, hinting that Jack will be “distracted” when he learns of the news, while also admitting his heart will “sink a little.”

But “he won’t be able to feel the weight of it in that moment,” the actor said, perhaps hinting that something goes down during his trip with Amanda.

Overall, Jack hasn’t really been in on a lot of the action. He isn’t scheming with Emily like Nolan, or plotting the demise of his soon-to-be ex, like Victoria. Does the actor himself grow restless? Is he jealous of those who are always up to something?

“I’m happy to wait for it,” he said. “But I play a lot of dodgeball – because I’m seven – and you do just wanna be in the game. It’s a bummer to watch from the sidelines.”

According to the new issue of Life & Style, Emily and Josh spent New Year’s Eve in Paris together … “making out all night.”

A source tells the magazine that the new lovebirds partied with the rest of the Revenge cast at a private table at Paris nightclub Rasputin on Dec. 31.

“They were acting very lovey-dovey and kissing the entire night,” the source dishes.

Josh has previously dated Miley Cyrus, while Emily recently split with Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan.

Considering how hot and heavy Emily Thorne and Daniel Grayson have gotten on Revenge, it’s little wonder their sizzling chemistry translated to their real lives.

Revenge returns tonight, with the birthday party from hell! Daniel Grayson’s (Joshua Bowman) intimate celebration gets crashed by an unstable visitor.

And for those who watched last year’s final episode until the very last second — spoiler alert — know that it’s shady college pal Tyler (Ashton Holmes) who ends up pointing a gun at the Grayson gang, with Emily (Emily VanCamp) sitting right at the center.

“You know Tyler is a dangerous one,” Christa Allen, who plays Charlotte Grayson, told Wetpaint Entertainment.

“You saw he went off his meds, and it’s unpredictable what he’s going to do. You know how money motivates people, so for Tyler, it’s a mix of being insane and being driven by money.”

We already know, pretty much, which characters come out of the soiree intact, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the season is drama-free.

“I tell you we’re getting into winter now in the Hamptons,” Christa told us at the Golden Globes Night of Firsts.

“Winter’s approaching, and it’s going to get dark and snowy and colder than ever. As if Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) wasn’t frosty enough already.”

And although Christa reveals that her relationship with Declan (Connor Paolo) will “plug along,” her character Charlotte will soon be put in the middle of other turmoil – which likely has to do with her parents bitter divorce battle.

“It get so twisted,” says Christa. “Oh, what can I say without saying? We’re just going to drop a bomb on you in the next four episodes.  It takes a while to manifest.”

Lucky for Christa, behind the scenes, no one’s looking to imitate art and strategically ruin the tight-knit group.

“The people I work with are out of this world,” she tells us. “I can’t tell you the grace and manners that Emily exudes in her life. And Josh, everything he does, he approaches with the excitement of a six-year-old. Do you know what I mean?  And Gabriel – he’s  one of my best friends. It’s an amazing group.” {source}

Will Jack and Emily ever rekindle their childhood romance? Is Amanda’s true identity finally going to be revealed? Could Nolan reallybe Em’s half-sib? And what about Charlotte?!

Those are just some of burning questions that remain in play as ABC’s Revenge resumes its addictive freshman run tonight at 10/9c. Below, showrunner Mike Kelley sheds some light on those aforementioned mysteries/theories and teases what’s to come.

TVLINE | Let’s assume everyone has seen the first 10 minutes of Revenge‘s winter premiere. What happens next?
Well, one character is escorted from the show. Once somebody gets “revenged” they have a tendency to come back with a revenge plan of their own, so I will say that much. That’s what you can expect on the heels of Episode 11. We’re trying to expand on the theme of revenge, so it’s not just Emily’s plot to take down everyone. She happens to have poked a particularly stingy beehive this time. A lot of these people aren’t just going to rest on their laurels when they’ve been taken down. We’re going to embrace what revealed itself to be the true nature of this show, which is that it’s an old school soap opera with a super hook.

TVLINE | Piggybacking on that, was it always the plan to have Tyler and Amanda, or rather Ashton Holmes and Margarita Levieva, around as long as they have been?
We have a long-term, a mid-term and a short-term plan for each character that we bring in, and it often has to do with the chemistry of who gets cast and who fits in this world. And without naming names, there have been some instances where we had longer intentions with characters and found that it wasn’t quite working — and not by the fault of anyone or anything in particular — it just sometimes didn’t quite click, and you have to allow for those trap doors. But I would say that Ashton and Margarita brought something to this world, a certain amount of energy and danger and fun — people love to sneer when they are watching them! Especially when you’re dealing with someone like Emily Thorne, who is about as anti as an anti-hero gets because what she does is pretty awful, so you want to make sure you balance that out with enough bad people for the audience [to cheer her on]. That said, we do have a plan for both of them, but how long we draw it out depends on the strength of the performances and how it’s all clicking.

TVLINE | So, it’s safe to assume Amanda will be around for the foreseeable future?
It’s safe to say that she has a lot of cards in her deck. She started off with Emily and now she’s got her hooks into Jack. What’s interesting about this character is that she truly is loyal to Emily. She believes they have a sister-type friendship, and that makes her an asset for Emily Thorne when she needs her.

TVLINE | Speaking of Jack and Amanda, what’s ahead for them? Will he ever become wise to her true identity?
Jack has the purest heart and the best intentions. I don’t think he looks at people and thinks they are capable of the evil doings going on around him. He’s sort of willfully ignorant of the inconsistencies in Amanda’s story, but he really wants to believe her story — he named his boat after her for goodness sake! [Laughs] There’s a lot of wish-fulfillment there. She’ll reveal herself to not be the girl he was hoping she would be — and I actually mean that in the personality way — and it’s going to be a challenge. But she’s also going to introduce to him a bit of spontaneity and danger and bravery that he wasn’t embracing before, so she’s not just going to have a negative impact on Jack. Ultimately, something very big is going to happen in Episode 13 where a decision has to be made between Jack and Amanda, and Emily is deeply involved.

TVLINE | We’ve also heard there may be new character — a guy — coming around who will impact the twosome.
I can say that we are bringing in a number of new characters with small arcs, and yes, somebody will appear and make things complicated. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Are you able to give a sliver of hope to all of those Jack/Emily devotees out there?
That epic draw toward one another that those two actors create when they are in the same frame, we want to maintain that for as long as we can before we annoy anybody. But I will tell you that when and if Jack and Emily kiss for the first time, Jack will be kissing Amanda Clarke knowingly. I can’t tell you if that’s going to happen this season, next season or 100 seasons from now, I just know that the one thing Emily protects is Jack and if it ever leads to a romance — and I’m not saying that’s going to happen — there will be nothing but openness, honesty, truth and forgiveness between them.

TVLINE | Let’s play the “Fan Speculation” game.
Let’s do it!

TVLINE | There seem to be two schools of thought when it comes to the relationship between Emily and Nolan. The first is that they are siblings and he knows it, and the second is that they are — or will be — romantically interested in one another.
I would say their relationship is — hmmm, what are the cryptic words I want to use? — deeper than one of them is aware of. You never know who is going to end up with whom, but for now we’re going to explore romantic chemistry with different characters for these two. And I will not confirm or deny any fraternal ties these two have. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Interesting… And the most popular theory currently is that Charlotte and Emily are half-sisters. Care to comment?
The answer to that question is coming very, very soon.

TVLINE | We keep hearing about Episode 15 and the trial, but what’s the plan beyond that installment? Anything big to tease about the remainder of Season 1?
The murder on the beach at the start of this show [was initially] the inciting incident — which is what a show begins with and then there’s the fallout from that. But what’s really neat is that Revenge‘s inciting incident really happens in Episode 15. Something terrible happens and [beyond that] it’s about how all of [the characters] react to what that is. Emily and Victoria are going to find themselves in a situation where they have to work together; some very surprising things about Victoria’s origins will be revealed. It all frees us up to keep moving forward. It’s a true soap and the surprises will keep coming, I’ll tell you that much.

Trying to choose a breakout star from ABC’s hit new drama Revenge is like trying to choose between living in a chocolate castle or having Christmas once a month. It’s freaking hard, y’all!

OK, it’s not that hard because we made a choice, obviously, and it wasn’t all that difficult to single out Gabriel Mann for his ridonkously awesome performance as Nolan Ross, a cross between Mark Zuckerberg and Peter Pan who treats the Hamptons like his playground. Equal parts vulnerable and malicious, you’re sorry for Nolan and scared of him all at once. Yeah, Mann’s that good.

We chatted with Mann about his portrayal of the internet billionaire with TV’s wackiest wardrobe, getting Emily VanCamp to crack during scenes, posting “shipper” videos on his co-star’s Facebook page and why he’s loving American Horror Story…

Why do you think fans of the show have become so attached to Nolan?
Gabriel Mann: I still scratch my head about that in some ways because I really did go through such a strange period before the show aired, really wondering if this character was going to connect with anybody. I just thought there’s a part of him that other people really don’t respond to and don’t really like, so is an audience going to feel the same way about him? To me, it was important to try and give him as many human moments as I could because it just makes him feel like a real person. It’s this duality between his sensitivity and his vulnerability and at the same time he can turn on a dime and say the snarkiest things and do his best to verbally decimate somebody. A lot of it is due to [creator] Mike Kelley, [director] Phillip Noyce and our producers for backing me up and going with it because it was an odd characterization. The network was kind of like, ‘What is this guy doing?’ [Laughs.] Everybody said, ‘No, no, just wait. There’s a master plan here.’

A lot of the actors we’ve spoken to for our Breakout Star interviews have said that the writers have starting incorporating some of their strengths or quirks into their characters. Do you feel like the Revenge writers have done that with you after seeing your take on Nolan?  
Yeah, it’s really interesting because I think the things that I had added to my portrayal that they end up liking, the writers will then tend to write for those qualities. I think in the way that Nolan speaks and the way that he’ll turn a phrase, they’ve definitely pumped that up as we’ve gone along. Sometimes we’re in the table read for a new episode and the first time you’re getting to see the lines is in a room with all the other actors and producers. I try to keep a straight face, but sometimes when I see some of the things they’ve written that I get to say I can’t help but crack up. When I laugh, I know it’s really good. I’m like, ‘This is classic Nolan.’ His voice and the way he speaks has definitely developed and the more fun I have with it and trying to keep it grounded in some reality at the same time is when it’s really effective. I’m so grateful to the writers that I’ve gotten to say some of these insane things. I wish I could think like Nolan.

So in the script, after Nolan says something really harsh to someone, does it say for you smirk? Fans really love Nolan’s smirk after he verbally destroys someone.
[Laughs.] The beauty of this character is that there are 150 different ways you can choose to do these scenes and play some of these lines. Generally when we shoot I’ll give them a little bit of a different take and read on the line as we’re going through it. It’s always very interesting to me to see which one they pick. I’ve been so pleased with some of the choices they’ve made. I think one of my favorite moments was with Tyler where he’s with Ashley on the street and I come up to him and give him the scary Nolan voice and then give him the sociopathic smile at the end. As much fun as people may have watching it is as much fun as I’m having doing it. 

It seems like whenever Nolan shares a scene with someone, fans want him to be with that person. Do you get a kick out of that?
It’s really funny because people send me links to Youtube videos on Twitter. It runs the gamut. I think the only one I haven’t seen yet is Nolan and Conrad (Henry Czerny). It’s hilarious. I don’t think there’s been a Declan (Connor Paolo) one yet. It’s me and Jack (Nick Wechsler), it’s me and Tyler (Ashton Holmes) and it’s me and Emily (VanCamp). I’m waiting for the Nolan and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) one! We don’t have enough stuff yet, but there’s some really cool potential things that may be coming up. Maybe they’ll be some Youtube videos of that. I’m flattered by it. I took a couple of Youtube videos and posted them on Nick Wechsler’s Facebook wall with a quote saying, ‘Nick, you have to stop posting these on Youtube.’

Do you have a favorite Nolan moment or one-liner so far? 
There’s so many. There was a speech I gave to Emily in the Stowaway. I think I’m on the cellphone. I think it was the Faux-manda speech. I think one of my favorite moments also was with Tyler after he stole my credit card. What does Nolan say? He’s like…this is terrible because I should remember all these lines! It was, like, ‘Transaction denied, cash only.’ I like that. Individually, each one of them has been so much fun it would be hard for me to single them out. The thing that I try to do, because Emily is so great in these scenes and she’s so deep in her character when she’s shooting, I always try and make her laugh when I do the Nolan thing and I can literally never get her to crack a smile. This is how good she is. I give her the craziest line readings. All I’m saying is in an upcoming episode I finally got her to crack. She could not stop laughing.

We have to ask: favorite Nolan outfit?
Hands down, it was the Grayson investor party where I wear the suit with the bowtie and the striped shirt. I think that was one of my all-time favorites. Although, going all the way back to episode one, that first thing on the dock: whale pants, double popped collar and the sailor hat. That was pretty classic. When we started there I was like we are going to have a good time with this character!

Are there any shows you’re currently obsessed with?
I cannot turn off an episode of Chopped. It’s only because I don’t cook, so I’m obsessed. I am one of those people who would have a can of sardines, a few plums, maybe a slice of two or lettuce and some jell-o mix, so the idea that if I had to in survival-mode, what could I make out of all these things? In terms of scripted television, I’ve been amazed by all the work everyone’s been doing on Homeland. It’s so good to get to see Claire Danes every week because she’s an actress I’ve always had a lot of admiration more. Having had an opportunity to work with Jessica Lange on a film a few years ago, I have loved watching her work on American Horror Story. It’s so much fun to watch Ryan Murphy do such a departure from Glee. I love the risks that they’re taking. They’ve done a really impressive job of launching a risky new show and succeeding.

Finally, how different is your life now compared to last year, before the show premiered? 
What an amazing 2011, I must say. One for the books, certainly for me. Within the space of three to four months that the show has been on the air, it’s been the equivalent of the whole prior past ten years that I’d been in the business, having worked in any number of movies. All of a sudden, with this one show, I’m walking in all the same places that I’ve always gone before and people start screaming ‘Nolan!’ out of the car window. It’s really different. I’ve seen it happen to a lot of friends and actors over the years, but it takes some getting used to. It catches you off guard. I’m used to doing what I do in relative privacy, but what’s so exciting and what’s so great about it is that it’s come from something that I’ve enjoyed doing so much. There’s something really satisfying to just know that people are responding to it, that people are watching it and that’s really exciting for an actor. As much fun as it is to do indie films, it’s more fun when people actually get to see what you’re working on. [Laughs.] Nolan is a character that has been so fun to play that I’m really proud of and so different from me and anything I had really done before, it makes it really special.
